Emerson Reed was awarded the Triple Crown from the Great Lakes Sprint Series (GLSS) by winning three Sportsman championships with the series in 2011. Emerson won the Yamaha Sportsman Lite, Yamaha Sportsman Heavy and Komet Sportsman classes. Out of the 14 races that Emerson entered in 2011 for the above classes, he started on the front row 11 times, winning 5 pole positions. Emerson finished on the podium (1st, 2nd or 3rd) 13 out of 14 tries and won 9 times. The GLSS is a World Karting Association (WKA) Divisional transfer series.

Emerson's first trip to the fast 103rd street racing complex in Jacksonville, FL would be an eventful one for sure. It would also be Emerson's first time driving a TaG Junior kart as well. After two days of racing, Emerson would score 2 pole positions, 2 pre-final wins, 2 podiums and Emerson's first WKA National Junior win.
